Diva Challenge # 122: "Grid (un)locked"

This week's Challenge is taken from a recent post by Rick and Maria about the different ways that can embellish and build off of grids. In the blog post/ newsletter there was a 10 x 5 grid showing different ways to fill a grid.  It was ala Tripoli in her journal. The Diva called them grid seeds. The Diva challenged everyone to take one of the patterns in the grid as a starting point or to create their own. This provided me the opportunity to play with the the grid based pattern I had recently deconstructed and used in last week's Zendala Dare.  I still do not have a name for it and am not really sure that it has not been done before. If anyone recognizes it let me know. If there are names that you can suggest would also be open to that. If not, may have to go the random word generator to come up with a name. I did three different variations. I am sure that there are more that could be thought of. Some of the time, what you can do with it may depend on the size of the grid that you use. This was a little bigger than the Zendala so I could do a few more things. Hope that you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Unnamed tangle, petals, Mooka, Zingers

If you have not all ready done so would encourage you to go to I am the Diva to look at the other tiles,ZIAs that others have submitted. There are always some great things posted there.

Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are always welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.

  2. Donald, I love this pattern, and you framed it beautifully! It's very delicate, and I haven't seen anything like it. I hope you'll do a step out for it.

  3. I keep looking at this and it reminds me of beautiful Italian floor tiles. You might name it after one of the cities in Italy. "Milan" has a nice ring to it! Just a thought.

  4. This is stunning Donald, beautiful unnamed tangle that is brilliantly executed. It has a graceful almost feminine flow to it. I wish I could name it for you, but I'm at a loss.

  7. This is sooo beautiful!! The new pattern is great and your tangleations provide a good impression of the possibilities! It deserves an appropriate name, not just one from a generator!! Can't find one right now, but will think about it. Something Italian sounds good....

  8. Love the new tangle, it has made a great tile. How about Rouners as a name. As it has rounded corners!!

  9. This is beautiful. I can't add much to what has been said about your tangles, but I would like to add that the gentle border shading is effective.

  20. What a beautiful piece! I love the way you used value in this, going from black to very light in a symmetrical way. I noticed that you embellish the borders of your Zentangle tiles too! I cannot leave just a straight edge. Your embellishments are much more organized than mine, though! Lovely, decorative work.

  21. Neat pattern and nice presentation. Have played with recreating it but look forward to seeing your step-out. No idea about a name but I kind of like Milan. Then again for fun you could go with Genoa - then again maybe not.

  22. I love how you changed up the seed, and how that changes the light to dark ratio. Nice border too.
