Zendala Dare #68: Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

This was an interesting challenge. My first thought was to do alternating sections differently. I went back and reread Erin's directions and decided that even if the therapist in me could justify it, it did not really follow the directions as given. For one of the few times I was able to curb the oppositional part of my nature. I decided that this would be a good opportunity to try the Tombow markers that I got a few weeks ago. Had not had an chance to play with them yet. Overall I am pleased with the result. Since I had not used them before, was not prepared for the blue to be so dark. Tried to use the blender to lighten it. It kind of washed out some of the lines on the one paradox but I decided to post it anyway. Hope that you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Gneiss, Paradox, Purk, & Shattuck

I did use a gray Fabrico marker on the Purk. I also opted to not do any shading on the black/white side. Wanted to maximize the contrast between the two sides. If you have not been to The Bright Owl to look at the other submissions, would encourage you to visit often. There are some talented artists that routinely submit Zendalas in the Dare.

Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.

Go Tangle !!

  1. Nice! I like your sparkles in your shattuck. I had forgotten about using sparkles in that tangle. Yours look great!

    1. Thank you. Using color was the first thing I thought of to differentiate. Maybe because I do not use color a lot.

  3. Great job! I think the idea of the alternating sections would have been cool. I started to divide mine into fourths and alternate that way.

    1. Thanks. If I had more time, I would try another one and alternate either rows or patterns in a row.

  5. I love Purk. The contrast is really nice. Good choice to leave out the shading.

    1. Have notice that Purk has been used in a number of submissions. I like it but I have to admit it is not one that I have used much recently.

  7. Great, this half with bold colors. Good that you did no shading here.

  8. Great contrast here, Donald, though the fine detail gets a bit lost under the colours. But colours work in a different way, of course. The whole design is very dramatic and makes something quite new of the template.

  9. Great idea to color one half and not the other -- really creates a definite difference between the two sides. Looks like we both used Purk, yet our Zendalas are very different from one another.

  10. What a nice zendala. I love the colored side. Purk really looks very handsome in this colored version, reminds my of halloween pumpkin.

  12. Great line work Donald, and the sparkle in your shattuck is terrific. I like seeing the difference between the black/white and the color - not sure which I prefer....

  13. Your work is always so clean and precise! I like the colors opposite of the black and white. How do you get the template onto the zendala tile? What's the trick?

Be creative and catch some happy!
