Diva Challenge #172: Duotangle - Auraknot vs Mooka

Did not get a chance to do anything for last week's challenge. I like Duotangles, but some are more challenging than others. Like a lot of others, Mooka is a tangle that I use, but not always satisfied with the way that it turns out. Really tried to just let it flow. I think maybe I got carried away. I was not that dissatisfied with the way that the Mooka turned out, but I think that it got too busy with the lines and the Auraknot got hidden. Tried to help this with a some highlighting, but not sure how successful it was. Will not have time this week, but really need to do a little more work with the black tiles and white pens. I have not done any for a while. Forgot how tricky the shading and highlighting can be. I did enjoy doing this though, so that was a plus. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Used an Insignio White Angelic Colour gel pen for this. I think this has a smaller nib than the other Insignia pen. Used a Zenstone to do the shading.

If you have not all ready done so, would encourage to visit The Diva's blog and look at the other pieces submitted. I plan on trying to look at them. There are usually some really great pieces of art.

Thanks for visiting,  As always, comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.

Go Tangle !!

    1. Thanks. Having followed your blog for a while and admiring your work, I am a little surprised when you say something is tricky. Is difficult to assess the process based solely on the end product and yours are always so cool.

  2. A fantastic idea to have the Mooka growing out the Auraknot! I like the result. Perfect for a round format.

  3. I like your zendala veru much your mooka looks very flowing. I can imagine shading and highlighting is tricky on black tiles, I would suggest to do the shading with the grey fabrico marker gives awesome effects on whithe gelpen drawn on black tiles!

    1. Thanks. I have used that before. I have to admit I was not impressed with the results. May have to revisit it though as it has been a while.

    1. Thanks. I wish I could say that they all turn out like this, but they don't. I am having a hard time deciding about the white gel pens. I still like the Sakura pens but like the smaller nib on this Insignio.

  6. I don't think it's too busy at all, Donald. You highlighted Auraknot really well and it stands out beautifully among the lovely swirling Mooka. Beautiful tile!

  7. I really like the way that you got your Mooka to flow on this one Donald. I too find the shading tricky to do on the black tiles. I do like that finer line though on the pen that you used. Does that pen skip much while you are using it? I really also like how the Auraknot seems to flow right into the Mooka. Lovey Zendala!

    1. The flow on the pen is not bad. I have yet to find a gel pen that flows as smoothly as the micron. I think it is just the nature of the tool.

  8. I was also impressed with the white lines and looked up the Uni-Ball Signo on Jet Pens. the one you have is a finer point than the one I use (tends to be globby sometimes) so I put one on my wish list. Also, they have a comparison on site of the different white pens: http://www.jetpens.com/blog/guide-to-choosing-white-gel-ink-pens-and-markers/pt/340. Nice tangling, Donald.

    1. I think all the gel pens can get globby. I do like the thinner point. Uniball has experience with smaller points but I think that sometimes the issue is the ink. They make a micro in black that is a .38. Unfortunately, I do not think they can use this in the white. Think it is always good to keep either a tissue or a piece of scrap paper around when using the white gel pens so can deal with whatever happens.

  10. This looks great! Black tiles are challenging and I think you did a splendid job. Love the flowing feeling of the Mooka. Gives a sense of looking underwater.

  11. I like it. The white pens are a challenge, but I find if I remind myself to slow down and lighten up (my new motto in life) it comes out better. I like the Signo pens better than the Gelly Rolls now too. The UM-153 is great for some serious lines, but it puffs up a bit and makes it harder to shade.

  12. I have yet to try white on black and from reading the comments above it sounds like it can be tricky just choosing a pen! That said I do like how you've done your tile and must try it myself sometime soon :) Linda

    1. Part of it is that I use Microns most of the time and they work differently. The ink does flow from them differently. There are people that like pens other than the Microns also. It is personal preference.
