Now back to the challenge. It is to use only straight lines. Did not think that it would be that hard and it really wasn't but I did have to deal with my wanting to put in some organic tangles. Was not so much that I do not like the line tangles, I realized that I usually put in a couple of organic tangles to balance it. In this tile it probably would have been where the Hollibaugh is used. also could not imagine doing only straight lines without using Paradox. I am sure that others will use it also. Other thing that I noticed after I had taken the picture is that I did not fill spaces quite as well as I thought I had. Oh well, was not a big enough issue to go back and redo and take another picture. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.
Tangles used : Paradox, Cubine, Hollibaugh, & Basquals
Shading done with HB pencil
Not even sure how many things have been posted yet on I am the Diva. Hope to have time throughout the week to look at the great pieces posted there. I would encourage you to go there often as well.
Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.
Go Tangle !!
Nice tile! Great balance! Love Cubine!
ReplyDeleteThe randomness of the plank placement for Hollibaugh does give an organic feel even though all the lines are straight. Nice tool to keep in one's back pocket!
ReplyDeleteNice balance with your tile. I especially like the cubine, you did a great job with your shading on that.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I thought we weren't "supposed" to shade. Apparently, I'm the only person who got that idea in their head. Your shading brings your tile to life. I also thought that Paradox had to be one of the tangles used since it looks curvi-linear despite being all straight lines----paradoxically, of course. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love how the use of cubine makes you feel like you are in an Escher. Great tile.
ReplyDeleteI love the cubine in your tile.. I don't know why I dint think of hollibaugh!
ReplyDeleteNice tile! I like the balance in it, with nice contrasts.
ReplyDeleteVery nice combination of patterns and wonderful composition. I like your tile, great shading :-)
ReplyDeleteCubine is one of my favorites and I love it here!
ReplyDeleteThe cubine around the outside makes the inside sort of float and then sink...wonderful movement and design!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you balanced this piece, Donald, instead of a string based tile. It compliments the concept of "lines only'.
ReplyDeleteI love this Tile, Donald. Beautiful balance in your design. I think your black fills are right on, and it doesn't really need any more. Wonderful shading.
ReplyDeleteHarmonious, and balanced design. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very nice tile - I love cubine and paradox is one of my most favourite patterns !
ReplyDeleteThe centre of the tile almost looks as if it's floating - nice tile.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and well balanced tile!
ReplyDeleteThis is nice. The precision of your cubine is just terrific, and i think you have struck a very nice balance here. Good work!
ReplyDeleteYour tile is wonderful! Isn't it strange how what we usually use as "tools" to balance things out are off-limits in a challenge with only straight lines? I think your use of Hollibaugh gave that little bit of disorder to the very ordered patterns, and it really works!
ReplyDeleteGreat tile Donald. I love how you shaded your cubine on a different side in each section - it really gives a feeling of depth, of movement…. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteWas not conscious of that. I think as I turned the tile to do the shading I was thinking of shading on the top of each cube. However, when done they were on different sides.
DeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteLovely :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first looked at this piece, the first thing that popped into my head was balance and tranquility. This is a very well drawn tile, Donald. Great work!
ReplyDeleteGreat tile, Donald. Beautifully balanced.
ReplyDeleteAgain very artistic and beautiful.
