Diva Challenge # 131: "Monotangle - Dex - teria"

This week's Diva Challenge was using the tangle Dex as  monotangle. I like this tangle but it was a challenge to come up with something as a monotangle. The few post I have looked at have expressed similar thoughts. I ended up doing two tiles. This is mostly because I was not thrilled with the first one. I am not sure why. The second one everything just seemed crisper. I chose the circles as I had wanted to practice the sphere technique posted by one of the other CZTs. I think it was Margaret Bremner, but I could be wrong. The ones that I saw other people do I thought looked really great. I still have some work to do on this but was satisfied as a first attempt. Was not as pleased with the way the picture came out. I avoid using the flash because the graphite will "shine". the shading is not as mushy on the actual tile. I hope you enjoy them.

I did use a stencil to make these circles. I do not think I could ever make such uniform circles free hand.

I have only looked at a few of the other submissions but plan on doing so the rest of the week.  If you have not looked at them would encourage you to go to  I am the Diva and look at what other people  have submitted.

Thanks for visiting. As always comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.
Go Tangle !!

  1. I, too, had difficulty trying to come up with something different and unique with this tangle pattern. I really do love the circles. Do you think it is "wrong" to trace the circles? I don't think so as it is the same as working on a round tile.

I think you did a great job with the shading on the spheres and they have a really rounded look.

    1. Thanks. I do not think it is wrong. We have a lot of tools that we can use. I do not use this one often. I wanted to work with them as I am doing a class that is addressing making Zendala templates and was practicing with them.

  2. I've not been able to leave Dex alone ^_^ and draw it in a leaves / flowers contest...as a matter of fact we all experienced the same difficulty. I find your first tile is very dimensional, this reminds me of a jail (sorry about this) window; whereas the second with orbs reminds me of planets and space. I love both your tiles, they are so beautifully different and interesting!

  3. Both tiles are interesting, but the orbs is definitely my fav. Seems like many of us were challenged about the monotangle part of this exercise.

  5. Hi Donald, I've been trying to comment and when I click on your name in my email (from your message to me) I keep getting google+. I finally got your message and your blog address. I sure don't understand google+ and how to use it. I seem to be on it too, but never signed up for it.
Frustrating! But at last I've found you. I love your circles. They look like floating planets.

    1. I think if you click on my name it will go to Google+. I do not use that a lot but I think that I will get a notification on my gmail home page that someone made a comment. I do not know if your comment shows up on my blog.

  6. Your spheres are wonderful Donald, and I do like the way you alternated your stripping in the outer frame on the first one.
