This week's challenge is another guest post/challenge. It is from Amy in Tennessee. The challenge was to bring your own beverage and use it in your art. I have to be honest. These types of challenges are not my favorite. I am not sure why I have a less than enthusiastic reaction to them. I could speculate, but I am not going to go there. But that is what a challenge is for, to push you out side your comfort zone. I decided to use my morning coffee like a wash. I drizzled some of my coffee on the tile, spread it a little by tipping the tile and then let it dry. This did not provide any great inspiration as to what I might do with the tile or tangles to use. Here is what the tile looked like before I did any tangling.
Was not sure what to do so I just started with some familiar and old favorite tangles. Here is what I ended up with. I hope you enjoy it.
Tangles used: 'Nzeppel, Cubine, Basquals ( variation), Cadent, Flux, and Zinger. The tangle in the lower left is unnamed. It is part of my experimentation with the basic "S" stroke.
I have not looked at many of the other postings yet. Hope to be able to do so now, provided my internet service is working. I keep losing connection so it takes a lot longer to do anything. Can go to

Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.
Go Tangle !!
Well, Donald, for not being very enthusiastic, you did a very nice job on this week's challenge! I hope you are proud of yourself too!!! It really is beautiful!! Love what you did with the 'S' stroke!!! Have a great weekend! :0) Share Humanity
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tile! I like your choice of tangles!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with this challenge.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great tile with wonderful tangles, but I can see that you did not embrace the idea of coffee on your tile. Maybe you could use some more coffee on the shading to give it a more purposeful look, or maybe you are just a purist tangler and spills just don't go with the Zen of it all. Anyway, it still turned out well.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of tangles and I really like the way that you added some brown pen in there too. Even though you say it isn't really your thing I think that you have a great tile there!
ReplyDeleteI like this tile very much. I wish I could get my Cubine as 3D as this, I think it's a really good mix of tangles and the colour underneath is just a highlight. After all, the beverage of choice wasn't supposed to take over, it was a starting point. You may not have liked the staring point but I hope you're pleased with where you ended up.
ReplyDeleteI was generally pleased with the result. Not sure what to suggest to you about Cubine. Some is the shading. Did not do it here, but sometimes will try to graduate the shading. Not sure that is the right term, but will have it darker the further back in the box.
DeleteWow Donald... You really let loose on this one... great going... have you ever tried a large piece of paper... and just tangled and let totally loose on it... not having any boundaries is awesome at times... that to me was the fun of a large sheet of paper and just letting the liquid FLOW... and the tangles did the same... Your tangling is fun and clean... Love, Light and Peace... Bonnie
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie. I have a couple of larger pieces that I am working on. Do not feel as comfortable working on larger scale. Think that is why it is taking me so long to finish them.
DeleteI like what you've done. My splotches totally overtook my tangling and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Isn't cubine a great pattern? I love how 3D it is. The brown pen adds to it too.
ReplyDeleteI like the 'old' tangles you used. I love going back to the base.
ReplyDeleteI had to have a closer look to see why you didn't care for it that much - and I couldn't see why. Your tile is quite lovely with perfect linework - is that your newest tangle on the lower right? it goes really well with the other tangles. Thank you also for stopping by my blog and for your lovely comments.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The tile was okay, I just did not feel I used the stain very well. Did not really do much with shading or highlighting either. I put a little Zenstone on some of the stain, but you cannot really tell it is there. Yes, the lower right is one of the many variations of Basquals.
DeleteWell done, Donald. I like your pattern choices, and it all came together nicely. Good Job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
