Diva Challenge #181: "Water"

For those who visit my blog regularly, you may have noticed a change. This was not intentional. I went into Blogger and was looking at some things. I clicked on something which I though was just going to show me what it looked like. Unfortunately it applied it to my blog. I had not backed up the settings and I did not see a restore button. I had to try to begin to reconstruct it from memory. I at least got some basic things back. You will probably see other things change as I try to adjust things.

Now on the the Diva Challenge. This week she based the challenge on her recent activities. She, along with her family, spent some time enjoying different activities on the water.  We were suppose to use "water" to inspire us in creating our tile. Well I went to one of my earliest resources. One of the first books that I purchased about Zentangle® was Sandy Bartholomew's Totally Tangled. She has a page in her book that shows a number of Japanese images that represent water. I chose one of them. I have not looked at others, except a few that showed up on my blog reader. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Swell, Squid, Sanibelle

This is quite different from what I usually do. I have been using a little more color but not like this. I used a combination of Irojiten and Derwent pencils. The water is a layering of Irojiten Horizon Blue, Hyacinth Blue and Derwent Sea blue. The last is the darker color. Sanabelle is a layering of Irojiten Straw Yellow, Bamboo, and Maple Sugar. On Squid I used Pigeon Gray for the orbs and Cameo Pink for the tentacle.

I now hope to be able to spend some time viewing what others have done. As usual, I encourage you to go to I am the Diva and look at all the great art. Take the time to comment, as most people appreciate this. If so inspired, take the challenge yourself.

Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.

Go Tangle !!

  2. I know your blog looks a bit different...seems more monotone but this works well to showcase your tangles. This is a lovely, gentle corner of the sea and I love the colours and depth of shade you get with them. Axxx

  3. Your blog does look a little different but I like it. Haven't come across Swell before but you've got a great sea effect from it, like the colour too :) Linda

    1. It is in Sandy Bartholomew's Totally Tangled book. I think it is a tangle that she developed.

  4. Well, I would never have guessed that you did that tile, Donald! Don't get me wrong, it is quite lovely and the color and tangling are perfect, but you really stepped out of your comfort zone one this one :) Now you have me worried about my blog too. I didn't know you could back it up, and I don't really know how. If you go to "Template" it gives you the option, on the top right, to restore. It may be too late for you at this point though?

  5. Really like that squid drifting along in the water. I certainly can understand your frustration with the blog. I have had stuff lately that has changed color on me without me changing it.... no matter what I have done, it won't change back, so I might have to do the same. :( Great tile this week!

  6. I'm always terrified to click on things on blogger in case this happens to me. I've been wanting to add a header picture but can't figure out how to do it. Your tile is lovely. The colours are so subtle.

  7. I enjoyed your tile. Don't be upset about your blog, I clicked on something one time when logging on to my computer and ended up taking it back to factory specs. It took me a week to figure out how to get my wireless connection back(after having my son-in-law and my IT specialist friend look at it). Getting my wireless back was also an accident, one of those "what if I do this?" kind of things.

  8. Indeed Donald, we used the same source, that shows that we remembered well and know where to find it if needed.
I like your tile, there is a lot of tranquility in it.

  9. Whatever the change is on your blog it still looks nice!!! And I must say, you have come a long way since I first started these challenges.(which will be a year in Sept) Anyway, Donald, the fact that you are using color and stepping out of that comfort box is amazing!!! I just love this tile!!!! Wow, it is gorgeous!!! All your other tiles that are true to Zentangle are always beautiful too, but it's just fun to see you explore!!! You get a big pat on the back for that!!! I do love what you have come up with on this challenge!! And thanks for the bit of sunshine on my blog! I liked your comment!! :0) Share humanity

  10. Lovely tile! I like the soft colouring and his soothing effect.
I understand your frustration with your blog. But I agree with Anne about our "source" of remembering.

  12. Great Tile, Donald. Wave is a perfect pattern for this tile, and your squid likes it too. Wonderful job using multiple blue colors in the Wave.

  13. Your tile is very calming---especially the lovely waves.

Way back in the day (like in the very late 1980's--practically antediluvian)---so long ago that my computer had a DOS operating system ---I accidentally wiped my hard drive clean. I (and computers) have come a long way since then. (Computers have come considerably further than I have). I fell into tangling just this year. Here's the back story: http://www.boomeresque.com/what-is-zentangle-and-is-it-habit-forming/
