Diva Challenge #165: "UMT - Camelia" , Second tile

I got the challenge done quickly enough during the week that I wanted to try something entirely different, This time I used Camelia in a grid. This one was really for me as I just wanted to do something for fun. The tile was done entirely with Sakura Gelly pens and the shading was done with Simply Art colored pencils. I got the pencils a while ago at Meijers. They do not blend the greatest but for generic pencils they are not bad. Did not want to use  a lot of color but just adding highlights. I usually use Microns and may use the Gelly pens for parts of a tile or zendala. This is the first time I did it all with the pens.

 I wanted to try this tangle in the grid as my first one was free form. I saw a lot of posts that people were having difficulty with it. I think on some tangles it is just the way that someone process things. I did not find it a whole lot different than doing free form, except I had the boundaries of the grid lines. This was a little tougher to shade. If I do something like this again, may decide to do something entirely different. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used : Shattuck, Zander, & Camelia 

Took this with and with out a flash. I chose the one without the flash as the flash was too bright. Did not take the time to adjust settings to see what else I could not come up with. Not exactly sure why this had such a red tinge to it.

Adventures in Monotangles #7 - Onomato

Have been pretty productive getting challenges done the last couple of days. This week's Adventure is to use Onomato. I figured what better time to work on a little color technique than with a monotangle.  Did not turn out exactly the way I would have liked. Will have to do a little bit more work on remembering the color wheel. It was an interesting process. I thought enough ahead of time to take pictures of the process along the way. The end result is okay. Hope you enjoy it.

This is what the tile looked like before I started to add any color.

This is the first layer of color. Did not want to do too heavy but think maybe I did it too light.

This is the next layer. Almost went back and just did this layer with better coverage, but decided to push forward.

This is where the color started to get a little funky. Looks almost like rainbow.

Hmm. Taking on a totally different character. Not thrilled about the green around the outside. 

Trying to get something a little more suitable. Beginning to like some of the areas a little more.

Here is the end result. Like some parts of it but not as satisfied with the larger orbs. Am going to have to work on my color blending technique a whole lot more. 

For all the things that I can find about this that I do not like, I am  not totally dissatisfied with the end result. Did not have a broad spectrum of colors to choose from. Will definitely look for more vibrant colors in the next set of pencils that I purchase. Most of this was down with a basic set of InkTense pencils.

Would encourage you to go to Mindful Creations to see what others have come up with. As usual with the Zentangle® community, the results are unique and varied.

Bookmark featuring Phicops

Do not usually make multiple posts in one day but I was working on some things for an upcoming class. I try to make bookmarks and include them in their class kit. Besides being something that I can give them, it also allows me an opportunity to experiment. These are 2" x 6" strips of card stock. This one has a texture.

I photographed it horizontally as I could get a closer picture. The card stock is a very light tan. I used Sakura Metallic Gelly Roll pens to make the tangles. For the shading I used colored pencils. I layered two colors with the lighter one on the bottom. Tried to get a color that was at least in the color spectrum of the Gelly Roll pens. Not sure if the picture really brings out what it looks like but, it does have a slight two-tone effect. I was rather pleased with the results. 

Would be interested in hearing what others think of it. I am planning on doing a couple more. Not sure if I will use the metallic pens or just the Gelly Roll pens but will probably experiment a little more with this shading on other tangles.
