Square One : Focus Tangle - Purk, Photo

When I originally posted this tile I mentioned that I did not  have access to my camera. The scan really made everything "white-out" did not really show much of the shading. Did take a picture of it and this is what it looks like. Like the picture much  better.

Tangles used: Purk, Quib (variation), Flux, Tripoli, and Zinger,
I know that Zinger was last week's focus tangle but I included it in this tile also. Kind of went along with the Flux.

Square One: Focus Tangle - Purk

Got to the focus tangle early this week. Purk is the focus tangle this week at Square One. I have used it in the past. It is one that I enjoy but have not used it lately. I enjoy connecting it to other tangles. That is what I did in this tile. I threw in a couple of my other favorite tangles as well. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Purk, Quib(variation), Tripoli, Flux, and Zinger
Shading was done with an HB and 4B pencil

I usually take pictures of my tiles but I do not have my camera so I had to scan this. Even though I took off the "remove dust" setting, it did not scan that well. When I have access to my camera, I may take another picture and post that.  If you are on FB, there are a lot of great tiles on the Square One site.

Square One: Bunzo - Take 2

I really do like the tangle Bunzo. I think that the flow of the pen makes it easy for me to relax as I am not thinking about curves or where it needs to end. It is a stroke that flows easily from my pen. I started this last night when I was tired and also avoiding getting information together for taxes. I know I have to do it, but it is a lot more fun to tangle. Much like the last one I did not worry much about shading the tangles but more shading the total image. It is okay, I probably could have extended the shading around Bunzo out a little further. I did not want to take the time to add to it as I have a lot of things to get to. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it. I enjoyed creating it.

Tangles used: Bunzo, Quandary, Tripoli, &  a little Quib.
I used a #2 pencil for the shading, maybe should have used a 4B, and the white dots in the triangles in Quandary are with a white Gelly Roll pen.

Square One Purely Zentangle®: Betweed

This week's prompt on the Facebook page Square One: Purely Zentangle® is Betweed. This is not a challenge like a number of others. It is designed to focus on the basic Zentangle method. There are usually a lot of other nice tiles posted besides the one using the prompt.

I like this pattern. Have not used it a lot lately but it is versatile to fill in spaces and provide a little perspective. I am not sure about this tile. I may have attempted to do a little too much. What will probably happen, as does a lot of times, is that if I pull it out later I will find more I like about it. I think I need to pull out Made in the Shade or some other resources for a refresher. If for nothing else for me to feel more comfortable when I do a lot of shading.  Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Square One: September 5, 2014 - Quib & Diva Challenge # 184 - New Official Tangle - ING by Molly

The prompt on Square One this week is Quib. I have used this tangle before, but I think I have used it more in Zendalas than in regular square tiles. I do like it. I tried to do something a little different by combining it with the new tangle ING. That was a little more challenging than I thought mostly because of trying to come up with a way to distinguish the different strands of ING. This was made a little more difficult as I did not make the sections that large. Oh well, it is what it is. I was not sure what to do with the background. I did not like the way it looked just leaving the white space but was not sure about what tangle to use. I decided to use a wave, which mostly turned out like an "s" shape. The idea was similar to what you would use with Msst. The lines were just a lot shorter. It provided something as a background. Guess I could have used some thing like Florz that would have been more open.  Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Do not normally do this, but as I just finished this tile yesterday, will also use it for the Diva Challenge, even though I did not know ING was going to be the challenge. If time permits will try to do another one this week also.

Tangles used: Quib, ING

Diva Challenge #160: "String Theory: Spiral out, Keep Going! (v.2)"

Was not sure if I was going to get this done before the deadline. I started a while ago but the week has been busy.  I have not even had a chance to look at things that others have submitted. I have not used spirals a lot although I like the ways that I have seen others use them, particularly Shelly Beauch. You can look at some great art by her by clicking on here to go to her blog. I think I got a little ambitious with the things that I tried to put in the spirals. Overall it turned out well. Here is what I came  up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Zander, Quib, Knot Ricks, Tripoli, Fengle, Betweed, Marasu, Printemps, Jetties, Indy-rella

I hope to have a little time now to look at what the others have posted on I am the Diva

Zendala Dare #93: Snowflake Surprise

This week's Zendala Dare was a challenge. The challenge was to use the template to create a representation of your vision of a snowflake. While I did like the template, as  hard as I tried I could not think of anyway to come up with something that represented a snowflake. I looked at the second one that Erin did, which was beautiful, but could not come up with anything. I did not want to duplicate hers. I think it partly is just the way my brain processes the templates. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that when I see a template I usually look at spaces and think of tangles that might fit. Other people have mentioned before that they will look at a template and it reminds them of something so that directs their zendala. That rarely happens to me. There maybe have been a few times that a template reminded me of something, but to me it was an obvious connection. Trying to come up with a representation of a snowflake stumped me so much I just could not get past it. Since I really did like the template I finally decided that I would just proceed with a zendala and hope for the best. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it, even if it is not a snowflake.

Tangles used: Quib, Knightsbridge, Betweed
The center is what I would call a starburst.

I have not taken the time to look at what others have posted but hopefully will be able to do so later. I am still hoping to complete the Diva Challenge, but this week has been chaotic. I feel lucky to get this one done. If you have not looked at the posts on The Bright Owl, would strongly encourage you do so.

Zendala Dare #92

This zendala turned out way different than I first imagined. Erin at The Bright Owl, posted how she usually approaches the zendala templates and how she did it differently this time. I rarely change the overall character of a template. Like a lot of  people, when I look at it, I think of tangles that might be able to be used in a particular space. I did start out this way but it quickly went in another direction. The "gifted tangle" this week is paradox. I knew that I wanted to use that. Began to look at how I could use it in a less traditional way. Then I decided to do something around the outer edge. I like Quib for this and it worked well. This really resulted in my having to look at some other ways to finish this. Overall I am comfortable with the end product. The process of creating this, even though not completely smooth, was still enjoyable. As typical for me the hardest part is the shading. Wanted to get some perspective/dimension created with this. Not sure how successful I was in doing that. I must admit though that since there has been some time between my completing this and posting, the more I look at it the better I like it. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Flora, Zander, Paradox, Quib

If you have not all ready, would encourage you to visit The Bright Owl and see the other pieces posted. I hope I can spend some time doing this. I have not decided yet whether this will serve a dual purpose this week. The Diva Challenge is using white space. Will have to see what time allows from me.

Zendala Dare #88

I do not know that I have ever posted a submission to a dare so late in the week. I had a lot of ideas of this just not the time to get to them. Then I did one that was a little more detailed. Over all I am pleased with the results. I felt a little rushed trying to get it done before the deadline, so I am not sure I gave as much thought to the shading and finishing of the tile. Here is what I ended up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Meer(variation), Florz(variation), Antidots, Quib, S-flowers, Fescu

I hope you have checked out all the submissions at The Bright Owl. I admit, that this week I have not had the time to look at them. I am hoping I get some time this weekend.

Zendala Dare #87

Erin has come up with some interesting templates for the last couple of Dares. This is another one. There are a lot of possibilities and I am sure that will see a lot of them as people post their work throughout the week. At first I was thinking of using a lot of tangles which would have left little negative space. As I was working on it decided that that would have looked too busy. So I ended up allowing for more open spaces. Overall I am pleased with the end result.  I could not resist using Crescent Moon in the inner crescents. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Crescent Moon, Quib, Shattuck, ( Do not know if the vine on the outside is a tangle)

If you have not all ready done so, would encourage you to go to The Bright Owl and look at the other pieces that have been submitted. There should be many great Zendalas and great ways of interpreting this template.

Diva Weekly Challenge #145: " New Official Tangle: Quib"

This week did not have to make a choice about which challenge to do, or try to find a way to address both with one tile. Erin was not able to get a Zendala Dare posted. The Diva's challenge involved using a new tangle, Quib. I had used this tangle before on a few things. it is fun to do but sometimes it is difficult to think of how to use it with other tangles. Looking at mine and what Laura did, I think I was more influenced by hers than I thought. I did not look at hers a lot and have not looked at a lot of others because due to the storms that went through on Sunday have not had consistent internet access. I have mixed feelings about this one. I do not dislike it, but the shading is not what I had hoped for. It is not awful, but could probably done more with it. Well it is done. I hope that you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Quib, Knightsbridge (variation), also put in a solo Mak-Rah-Mee variation

If you have not looked at the other tiles on I Am the Diva, strongly suggest that you go look at these.  I hope I have some time to look and comment on the work that others have posted.
