Dual Challenge: Diva Challenge #369 - Orb-tastic & Anything Goes - Tangled Art for Everyone - Ode to Crescent Moon

Not sure that I will get this done ion tome to post in the Diva Challenge.   I wanted to do this mostly because I needed to do something that was more repetitive and for me relaxing. I did accomplish this but it took longer than what I expected. I use Tipple a lot but not so much Crescent Moon.  What I did on this was to think of different ways that I could use Crescent Moon.  Are probably more, but I got at least four done.  I used Tipple in the one version in a way that I usually do with Crescent Moon.  I tried to not be so exact with the orbs and even did some "under work" rather than each one having to be a complete orb.  As is fairly common, the shading of this was one of the bigger challenges.  Here is what I come up with.  I hope you enjoy it.

Used 01 Micron and 2H and 4B pencil for shading.

I have not had time to look at what others have done with this challenge.  If you have not either, click on this link and see some interesting uses of orbs.

Beyond the Basics class: Tangled 3-D House

Just completed a class using Dorian Eng's tangled houses concept.  Was a fun enjoyable class.  Was a challenge getting them together but learned a few things that I will use if I do the class again.  Here are pictures of the different pieces to the house.

Only a picture of the gable that is in the front of the house.  The back is similar except  there are no flowers and I did the tangle Gneiss where the window is on this one.

Here are the tiles for the roof.  I used the tangle Shing.

Here are the front and back.  The front is on the left.

These are the two sides.

Here are pictures of the house put together.

The one on the right is one of the student's houses.  This is the front.  I took a series of all sides.  Here they are.

One student had the tangling done but did not get it all constructed. She is a big Harry Potter fan.  She did a Slithering theme.  Here is the picture I took of what she had done in the class.

She sent me a picture of the finished house after class. She has Harry Potter lego figures in front and used an electric candle for the lighting.

Here are pictures that she sent me after she had completed it.

You can see the lego figures better in this picture.

She added tissue paper behind the window cut-outs for an additional "green glow".  Said she was looking for a darker green and may put that in it.

If you are interested in classes, click on my class tab on the banner on the top of my home page. There is information about scheduled classes there.  If have other questions, you can email me.

Square One Focus Tangle: Mooka - Gone Wild

This week's focus tangle on Square One FB is Mooka. This seems to be a tangle that people either really like or they really dislike it. I do not have a great relationship with it, but it is getting stronger. I think it is one that is a little more difficult to play with but that is exactly what I tried to do. I had done it before on a black tile. But that would not be an acceptable post on Square One. I have seen some very nice renditions of this tangle. Some have been in the traditional style. Meredith Yuhas is one of those. She just has a flair for this tangle. Have not seen one done by Shelly Beauchamp yet. She does some great looking things with this tangle also. If I have time, I may try to get a more traditional Mooka done later. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used as embellishment: Crescent Moon, Stripes. Phicops, Hibred, Tipple, Meer, Ahh, Gneiss, & Diva Dance

Square One : Crescent Moon

This is one of those tiles where if I had evaluated it before I was done doing all the tangles, I would have discarded the tile. Not that I would really do that, as I have discarded very few tiles. I started out with the circle in the middle as a string and did the rounds of Crescent Moon. The last tangle I did was Florz. This is a fairly simple tangle, but when I was even partially done with it, my whole perspective on the tile changed dramatically. It went from it is okay to I really like this. When this happens even questions about shading don't exist much. That is saying a lot for me as shading is an area I struggle with still after about 3 ½ years of tangling. Cannot explain it, but it is one of the things that I like about Zentangle®.  I cannot count the number times this has happened with tiles and Zendalas. Well enough rambling. You did not visit to hear my ramblings. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used : Crescent Moon, Gneiss, Inapod, & Florz
Shading was done with HB and 4B pencils.

Am experimenting with my chop. May see a couple of different variations. If you have any thoughts, either way, about any of them, feel free to let me know. Some of what I have come up with lately reminds me too much of a bug.

Diva Challenge #183: "Use My Tangle- X-Did" by Annette Carlo

As it is the first of the month this is a UMT (Use my Tangle) Challenge. You can see the step out for Annette's tangle X-Did by clicking HERE. As with many patterns it is one that she saw on someone's blouse. I hope she does not mind but I varied it a little. When linking them together, I alternated the pattern rather than having it completely stacked. (I think you will be able to understand when you look at the tile.) Was not sure exactly how I was going to finish it but it came out okay. I also chose to use the black/brown combination, but rather than do it on a Renaissance tile, I did it on the traditional white tile.  May play with it more, as there are some interesting possibilities. Here is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: X-did, Shattuck, Crescent Moon

Have not seen what others have submitted so now am off to do that. Would encourage you do this also and even attempt your own tile. Even if you are not comfortable posting it. Can click here on  I am the Diva to see some great art.

Diva Challenge #158: " Duotangle: Diva Dance + Crescent Moon"

This week's Diva Challenge is a Duotangle. It puts two tangles together that are to be used to create your tile or ZIA. The two tangles picked, Diva Dance and Crescent Moon seem to be two tangles that just go together. Both tangles use auras and filled shapes. There are probably more variations for Crescent Moon, but Diva Dance is versatile in that it does not really have a specific shape. It can fill a space of be used in a line. As is usually the case, the  most challenging thing for me is the shading. I think on this one it was not so much the tangles as it is how I used them. I was trying some different things. I hope you enjoy it.

If you have not all ready, I would highly recommend going to I am the Diva and looking at all the great pieces that others have done. If it so moves you, leave a comment about what you like. Most people who participate enjoy some feedback from others. If you are really inspired, try one of your own, even if you do not post it on the site. I plan on taking some time to look at them.

Zendala Dare #87

Erin has come up with some interesting templates for the last couple of Dares. This is another one. There are a lot of possibilities and I am sure that will see a lot of them as people post their work throughout the week. At first I was thinking of using a lot of tangles which would have left little negative space. As I was working on it decided that that would have looked too busy. So I ended up allowing for more open spaces. Overall I am pleased with the end result.  I could not resist using Crescent Moon in the inner crescents. I hope you enjoy it.

Tangles used: Crescent Moon, Quib, Shattuck, ( Do not know if the vine on the outside is a tangle)

If you have not all ready done so, would encourage you to go to The Bright Owl and look at the other pieces that have been submitted. There should be many great Zendalas and great ways of interpreting this template.

Thanks for visiting. As always comments are welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated.
